As technology advances, there are more orthotic styles than ever to specifically help individuals gain mobility.

An orthotic is used to provide support to the feet, ankles, wrists, hips or neck. It is applied to help strengthen an injured area. Since technology in the world of orthotics is always changing and advancing, it can be hard to know what is all available. JP&O practitioners want to provide you with information about a few common orthotic devices so you are aware of your options.

Spinomed IV – This orthotic device is made for individuals with chronic back pain due to hyperkyphosis, a curving of the spine. It provides support to the lower back by helping to activate the back muscles and strengthen the spine. It fits individuals as their condition improves as the front and back panels are removable. This is a non-restrictive brace and allows normal movements of the shoulders and arms. It is as easy as putting on a backpack.

CTi by Ossur – The CTi custom braces offer comfort, stability and protection to the knee joint. The hinges use extension stops to move with the knee, and the silicone-coated liners reduce skin irritation. CTi braces are custom-made and available in three models – Vapor, Standard and Pro Sport. The Vapor model is for low to medium impact. Standard is designed for medium to high impact and the Pro Sport is to be used for the highest impact levels.

Stance Control from Otto Bock – A stance control orthotic device allows for knee flexion during the swing phase of your step as well as locking during stance phase. While a traditional knee-ankle-foot orthotic provides stability when it locks the knee in full extension, it can also lead to overuse injuries. By allowing the knee to bend during the swing phase of a step, a stance control orthotic device allows the individual to walk with less effort.
